Being in transit is a permanent state of the “New East” (post-soviet/Eastern European countries). Whilst the experience of permanent change is challenging, it can also lead to an unexpected, precious capability for the 21st century: the ability to constantly re-invent and re- write identities, histories and futures. It is a state of becoming, of transitioning, of translating from one status to another. And particularly younger artists are sensitive for questions of belonging; defying, criticising, but also reinventing traditional notions of East and West.
The lab takes place online. Young artists from Central Asia and Zurich University of the Arts will have the opportunity to develop a collaborative artwork that explores the above topics and present it in a public format, which will be collectively defined.
The lab will “travel” from “East” to “West”, challenging the notion of borders, through different spaces and set the focus on the process of transitioning between “states”.
